Dear Clients, Friends, and Everybody,

Whew! What a year 2011 was! I am really looking forward to a new year, I have to say. I suffered a personal tragedy this year when my surrogate daughter died within 48
hours of becoming ill in early October. I have not had the experience before, of losing someone so close to me, and continue to struggle with her loss. Thank you to all
of you for your thoughts, well wishes, and prayers for me and for your patience when I was a little slow. I very much appreciate all of you.

I am planning on updating my website npjulie.com soon, to allow search engines to find me, as people have been telling me that they wish they could have found me
earlier in their struggle with heavy metal toxicity. We also plan to have a larger FAQ (frequently asked questions) section, so everyone can find those answers!

New information: People who have low blood pressure, and continue to struggle with needing to lie or sit down most of their waking hours, due to weakness, lightheartedness, etc. I have learned of several therapies to help your body reset and stabilize – oral and nasal medication therapy, and an injection therapy into
nerve plexuses. It is usually an autonomic nervous system dysfunction that causes the problem, which involves the pressure receptors in our body giving the nervous
system incorrect information. Please set up a consultation to discuss these options if this describes you.

Other people, who have multiple chemical sensitivities (bad reactions to chemical scents and other smells) can also benefit from the nasal spray. Resetting the system
after getting an exposure can prevent the suffering that can occur afterwards. Last spring, I was exposed to a tar odor from a roof job being done across the street. I
became ill with nausea, brain fog and a headache. Luckily, I had just heard of this new therapy, and decided to give it a try. Almost immediately the symptoms have
cleared.

More New Information: I have some general recommendations for the cold and flu season. I suggest having some antivirals on hand to start taking at the first sign you
may be coming down with something. I have a combination product that all my Naturopathic Physician colleagues have been raving about that has 14 different antivirals in
one supplement. It can be taken two tabs every hour or two to head something off, or one tab twice each day for general prevention. It is from Priority One, called Bio
Vegetarian. I have quite a few bottles available for my ongoing clients, and am selling it at a discount of $30; usual price is $36 for 120 tablets per bottle. Please
do a search on it to get further information regarding the ingredients.

Also, another new supplement is a throat spray called DPS, made by the same people who make Del Immune V; which is another highly recommended supplement for those with
deficient immune responses. DPS is a colostrum derivative that gives the immune system information on how to be more effective. It seems to help people with sore
throats, even chronic ones. It usually sells for $21.50; sale price is $15.50. It can be sprayed into the throat 4 sprays 4 times per day for acute problems. I also
usually recommend the herb Osha to help with acute sore throats- it is very good at diminishing the pain, and helping to get rid of the virus.

I don’t recommend taking Tylenol, (acetaminophen) for pain or to suppress fevers. I don’t advise suppressing fevers; though if it is 106 or more, it means you have a
life threatening infection, and need to get emergency room treatment for the infection, not the fever. The fever is actually the body’s attempt to kill the infection,
so suppressing it is likely to prolong the illness.

Dear Patients and Friends,

I want to thank you for your confidence in me and for your referrals. We are able to keep this practice open and here to serve you because of your patronage. I want to especially thank those of you who order your entire protocol of supplements from us. We offer a discount plan developed to assist families with more than one member who are my patients, but also extend it to others who order all of their prescribed supplements from us.

Yeast Overgrowth

For many adults suffering from dysbiosis or yeast problems, I have begun prescribing a new product from Pharmax called Candaclear 4. It contains 4 highly researched plant anti-microbials and probiotics. It has an innovative delivery system that allows the product to be distributed throughout the entire gastro-intestinal tract.

For kids, we use a lower potency product called Colon Guard along with Mind Linx, which has 2 strains of probiotics especially noted for helping the body digest gluten and casein.

Winter Supplements

The winter months provide challenges to our health. We often find ourselves in enclosed spaces for longer periods of time, as we attempt to keep ourselves, our homes and work places warm. We tend to spend less time outside and may be exposed to more illnesses in our confined spaces. There is less sunshine and often more stress with holidays and traveling. Maintaining an adequate supplement protocol can help us stay healthier and avoid illness.

During the coming winter months, I want to remind you all to take your Vitamin D supplement. Among other health benefits, it supports your emotions, bones and immune system. Another essential supplement that we have discussed is Omega 3 fatty acids. I now prescribe almost exclusively Krill Oil because it is more easily assimilated into the body and thus requires less volume to be taken. It doesn’t smell like fish and the gel caps can be frozen to completely remove any taste or odor issues. Getting adequate amounts of a full-spectrum Vitamin E is very important while taking Omega 3’s because they are fat-soluble pro-oxidants.

I have changed the CoQ10 supplement that I prescribe from Ubiquinone to Ubiquinol. This form is more readily absorbed and less expensive. When you have your twice yearly follow ups with me, we can review these for each of you and adjust your supplement protocols.

We are sad to announce that Jarrow no longer makes Detox C. It contained Vitamin C with 3 liver herbs and was very useful to minimize the number of pills needed to be taken in a day. We will need to change prescriptions to 2 separate supplements for those people using Detox C. Both Vitamin C and liver herbs are most effective when taken 3-4 times per day as there are no storage proteins in our bodies for them.

Please remember, if you do get sick this winter and are able to come to the office, I can administer several different IV solutions which provide a huge boost to your body’s ability to fight pneumonia, flu, bronchitis, etc. This is used in addition to antibiotics, at times.

Light Therapy

I have spoken with many of you about the benefits of using light therapy. I have researched the available light visors and would encourage those of you who suffer from depression, especially seasonally, to consider the Feel Bright Visor. It can also be highly effective for those of you who are “night owls” and want to be proactive in the morning. The Feel Bright Visor is available through www.physicianengineeredproducts.com.

Realistic Avoidance of Everyday Toxins

Our modern life and environment contain many opportunities for exposure to toxins that can compromise our health. Here is some of what I do to minimize exposure.

Filter shower water. Chlorine is much more highly absorbed by the lungs through breathing in tiny water droplets than from exposure in bath water.

Filter drinking water.

No cooking or reheating with plastics in the microwave – EVER!

No gas appliances in the house.

Operate air purifiers in the house.

No fireplaces/woodstoves.

Keep inside air ON while driving in traffic.

No pesticides/herbicides except 1-2 applications per summer of flea products on the dogs.

No toxic cleaning products.

Provide plenty of ventilation for any painting or other chemical applications.

Avoid Perfume, Soaps and Fertilizer/Pesticide departments in stores.

Ask patients and staff to refrain from using scented products.

Buy organic foods whenever possible.

Have all amalgams removed from teeth and avoid dental offices that use it.

Avoid nail polish and acrylics and their fumes.

Avoid hair dyes and parabens in skin products.

Avoid immunizations. All adult ones contain the mercury preservative thimerosal.

I went into integrative medicine not only to help sick people get well but also to prevent well people from becoming sick. Together we have been a great success. I am looking forward to continuing our collaboration. Have a happy and healthful holiday season and new year!

Sincerely,

Julie Anderson, ARNP

Hello Wonderful People,

What’s new in Seattle you ask? Well, on a personal level I have begun playing my tenor saxophone in a jazz band after being off for the last 7 years. It is a great deal of fun, and challenging on many levels! We need a baritone sax, and a trombone if you know anybody who may be interested.

Some of my clients have been confused about when I treat various infections, including yeast, bacteria and viruses. I treat as needed, recognizing that the better our own immune systems function, the easier it is to keep the infection(s) under control. Eradication is not always possible as these agents are in the environment, naturally living in and on us. Some of the confusion comes from the symptoms of yeast overgrowth, bacterial overgrowth, and viral overgrowth being similar, and from some of the treatments commonly used also treating other problems. This is illustrated by the following example: Diflucan kills fungus as well as slowing a Phase 1 liver detox that is sometimes functioning too rapidly. This causes people who are actually suffering from a build-up of phase 1 metabolites to believe that they have yeast, because they improve on Diflucan. They begin blaming their chemical sensitivity symptoms on yeast, when they actually do not have a yeast overgrowth problem.

There is still much controversy about Vitamin D dosage. I am firmly on the side of supplementing to blood levels of 53-90, and also advocate low dose calcium supplementation and Vit A, E, and K at the same time as increasing the Vit D levels. Vitamin K is a very interesting compound which helps keep calcium out of our arteries and in our bones. This keeps us from having dementia and heart attacks, plus improves circulation to our feet, hands, kidneys and eyes. These areas have the smallest capillaries, and are among the most likely places in our bodies to be damaged from poor circulation. Many of us do not get enough Vitamin K in our diets. It can be found in green leafy vegetables, avocados, and other dietary sources. These vitamins are fat soluble, and may be taken once each week if the hydrochloric acid levels in your stomach are high enough to promote their absorption.

Silica is a very interesting mineral necessary for strong bones. Your bone/mineral supplement may not have it. Anyone with osteoporosis/connective tissue issues should be considering it, in addition to what you may already be on.

Remember, it is hard to heal if you have untreated sleep apnea, or other issues such as anxiety, alcohol, or pain, that don’t allow you to get a good night’s sleep. If you aren’t sleeping well, please e-mail me for an appointment to discuss it or work with your primary care provider. One way or the other you must address sleep.

This is a good place for me to remind everybody that I am not your primary care provider, I am your consultant for complex hormonal, neurological, autoimmune and other malfunctions of health. I do appreciate the opportunity to weigh in on any treatment plans your primary care provider comes up with prior to you actually initiating them, unless it is for acute infections, trauma or other emergency or urgent medical conditions.

If you have improved by working with me, but are still troubled by memory issues or brain fog, please e-mail me to set up a consultation. There are multiple substances which can help including one being studied for Alzheimer’s, which was originally developed as an antihistamine. Some are prescription only, some are over the counter.

I have made special arrangements for my patients to receive 30% off any nutritional supplements ordered directly from Emerson Ecologics. Ask for details next time you see me – it is an incentive for you to make your follow-up appointment!

In addition to this new benefit to my patients, I am also happy to offer a new service for clients. I am now willing an able to act as a consultant only for people unable to make the trip to Seattle to see me in person and become a patient. I will bea ble to provide phone consultations, but this will not include prescriptions, diagnosis, or treatment plans. I can only give such clients suggestions they will need to discuss with the appropriate licensed health care provider they see in person as a patient. THis servce will be of benefit to those people who aren’t sure if this type of protocol will be helpful enough to invest the travel time and money into the trip to Seattle, and to those who want to get started on their program before they gt their amalgams out, for instance. It may also be valuable to those who have a co-opertaive but inexperienced practitioner available locally.

As always, I thank you all for trusting me to help guide you and your loved ones in your pursuit of health.

Sincerely,

Julie
